Objective
You know how to close a cash register at the end of a shift or at the end of the day, validate the cash amount, and handle any discrepancies. You also know how to export the closing summary as a PDF for record-keeping or archiving, and how to find your closing summaries from a dedicated report.

Understanding Cash Register Closing
Cash register closing refers to the end-of-shift action performed by a user who has access to the register. It resets the counters to zero and generates a closing summary.
Depending on your establishment’s organization, this operation can be performed:
- at the end of each shift
- or only at the end of the day
Throughout the shift, Ulyses Suite automatically calculates the theoretical amount the register should contain. In case of a discrepancy, you must enter the actual amount as well as the reason for the difference.
Accessing Cash Register Closing
- Go to View Cash Register.
- Click on Close Cash Register.
Validating Cash Register Closing
When closing, Ulyses asks you to confirm the cash amount withdrawn.
In standard operation:
- this amount corresponds to the total cash accumulated since the last closing
- other payment methods are automatically reset to €0.00
- Enter the amount in the Withdrawn Amount field.
- Click Close Cash Register.
Once the closing is validated:
- all payment methods are reset to zero
- a new cash cycle begins
Exporting the Closing Summary as PDF
A Download PDF button is available at the top right of the cash register closing window.
- Click Download PDF.
- The file is generated immediately.
The PDF accurately reflects the information displayed in the closing window (opening balance, receipts, payments, discrepancies, etc.) in a table format. It includes a header (closing name, establishment, date/time of printing) and a footer (user who performed the closing, pagination).
The file is named according to the format: Establishment_CashRegisterClosing_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.pdf.
Managing Cash Register Discrepancies
If a discrepancy is found between the theoretical amount and the actual amount:
- Enter the observed value.
- Provide a mandatory reason.
This ensures precise tracking of cash register anomalies.
Finding Closing Summaries
A dedicated report, Cash Register Closing Summary (cashierShiftClosingSummary), allows you to find all completed closings, with the usual report features:
- period selection
- download in PDF, Excel, or CSV format
- printing
- email sending
- scheduling
Good to Know 💡
- Cash register closing automatically generates a consultable summary.
- Payment method amounts are reset to zero after each closing.
- The cash withdrawn amount must match the actual contents of the register.
- The exported PDF at closing exactly matches the data displayed on screen.
Use Cases 🧭
Case: A user finishes their shift and needs to close their cash register.
Expected result: They access the cash register details, verify the cash amount, download the PDF summary for archiving, then validate the closing. The register is reset for the next user.
Case: A manager wants to find the cash register closing from a previous shift for an accounting audit.
Expected result: They open the Cash Register Closing Summary report (cashierShiftClosingSummary), select the relevant period, and download or print the corresponding document.
Tips ✨
Always verify the cash amount before validating the closing to avoid discrepancies and later corrections. Download the PDF at the time of closing to keep an immediate record without needing to go back through the dedicated report.
